The fall foliage extravaganza continues this long holiday weekend. The
colors are vibrant just about anywhere in New England; from the summits
to the seacoast. The latest foliage reports suggest that color is
continuing to peak now in much of Northern New England, including in
most of the White Mountains, and Green Mountains in Vermont. In some
areas, the color has gone past peak, though there is still plenty of
amazing color. Farther south, high color is being observed from
Downeast Maine to Lake Sebago, east to the New Hampshire Lakes Region
and southwest into the Monadnocks. In the Monadnock Region itself,
colors are going to be peaking over the next several days. Closer to
Atkinson, colors are increasing daily. Currently, high color is being
observed in the northern part of the Merrimack Valley; downriver from
Lawrence to the mouth of the river, moderate color change is being
observed.
We haven't had too many significant wind events so far this fall. Our first significant event was on Wednesday when a powerful frontal system pushed through; accompanying this front were gusty showers and downpours. Many leaves remain on the trees, however, so leaf drop is moderate to low from North to South.
Enjoy the long holiday weekend. If you have any pictures of the foliage you'd like to share, send them along via Flickr.
